The title of top PPC network on the internet still belongs to Google Adwords, and they are expected to remain on top for years. What’s great about Adwords is that anyone can setup an account and run a campaign in a few hours. Any ad words campaign needs compelling ads in order to be successful. There is a limitation on the number of text characters when advertising on adwords so make sure you select the right combination of words and statements to get your audience’s attention and generate click-throughs.
A whole science has emerged around writing effective adwords ads and knowing what to right in each line is just a part of it. If you’re just starting a new Google Adwords campaign, here are some essential tips for writing that first ad:
1. Headlines must contain your keyword. Perry Marshall and Bryan Todd, authors of “The Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords” state that internet users are more likely to click on an ad if the ad’s title or headline contains the keyword or keyphrase they were searching on. This means it is to your advantage to include the keyword or keyphrase in that very first line; weave these words into the headline to create an attention-grabbing headline that has the potential to generate more clicks.
2. Describe your benefit in the second line. Most readers will respond to an ad that clearly lists a key benefit near the beginning. Differentiate between benefits, offers and features to make this technique work. State what they will gain from you before giving out the details of your offer.
3. State a feature or offer on the third line. When you’ve clearly stated the benefit, then it’s time to introduce your special offer or a feature that supports the benefit. Remember to keep your feature or offer brief and simple so as not to overpower your benefit.
4. Use the last line for your landing page. You can link your ads into any page or URL within your website. Do not link all your ads to your homepage. You can create a specific landing page for each ad to match the page’s content with that of your ad’s. This can also be used to obtain performance data on your ads, which you will need for optimizing your campaign later.
5. Run a similar ad to improve your campaign. Split-testing means running two similar ads at the same time to see which one will gather more clicks. Make small changes in your ads and see which version will perform better.
Setting up your Google Adwords campaign for the first time can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t take long to understand all of the elements of Google Adwords and creating compelling and persuasive ads.
